MX Pumps Troubleshooting

 

Symptom1 - Motor will not run.

Possible Cause
  1. No Air supply.
  2. Air piston seal worn.
  3. Pilot valve assembliesinoperable.
  4. Main air valve inoperable.
  5. QE valve defective.
Remedy
  1. Check air and fluid supply ball valves andsupply hoses.
  2. Replace Piston seal.
  3. Switch/interchange pilot valves to isolatefaulty pilot valve and clean/replace.
  4. Check clean/replace Air valve.
  5. Check for constant exhaust air when pumpis not in a stalled condition. Check/replaceQE cups.

 

Symptom2 - Pump runs but hasexcessive pulsation.

Possible Cause
  1. Worn piston seal.
  2. Worn/failed shaft seals.
  3. Damaged exhaust valve.
  4. Damaged pilot valve.
  5. Air exhaust restricted.
Remedy
  1. Replace piston seal.
  2. Replace shaft bearing / seal housing.
  3. Inspect / clean and replace as required.
  4. Inspect / clean and replace as required.
  5. Inspect / clean and replace as required.

 

Symptom3 - Leak from rod sealpackings.

Possible Cause
  1. Seal wear or damage topacking material.
  2. Damaged rod
Remedy
  1. Stop the pump and relieve all materialpressure. Tighten the gland nut until theresistance of the packings clamping the shaftcan be felt. Do not over-tighten. Ensure solventcup has the correct lubricant for the materialbeing pumped present at all times.
  2. Replace rod.

 

Symptom4 - Low materialflowrate, pumprunning fast or willnot stall (stalling - 1stroke should notoccur in less than 30seconds).

Possible Cause
  1. Contaminates trappedbetween ball and seat.
  2. Worn or damaged balls/seats.
  3. Worn bottom rod seals.
Remedy
  1. Strip and clean pump. Check for damage.
  2. Check for wear; replace balls and / or seats.
  3. Replace rod seals.

 

Symptom5 - Air entrainment in a pump.

Possible Cause

Loose joint on suction side.

Remedy

Check and reseal fittings.
